King Charles at dinner with Trump in Windsor: 'United in supporting Ukraine'

US President Donald Trump's state visit to the United Kingdom has begun. A large evening banquet was held at Windsor Castle, where King Charles III also gave a speech. 'Today, as tyranny once again threatens Europe, we and our allies stand together in support of Ukraine, to deter aggression and ensure peace,' King Charles said, as reported by the BBC. "Our countries have the closest defence, security and intelligence relationship ever known," he further said.

The key message of the King's speech concerned the deep ties between the United States and the United Kingdom. "Our peoples have fought and died together for the values we hold dear," he said. The king went on to praise Donald Trump's "personal commitment" to ending conflict around the world. "Our countries are working together to support crucial diplomatic efforts, in particular, Mr President, your personal commitment to finding solutions to some of the world's most intractable conflicts in order to secure peace," the monarch said during the State Dinner at Windsor Castle.

The state visit to the UK is "one of the greatest honours of my life", said the US president speaking at a state dinner in Windsor. The US president said that he and his wife Melania are both 'deeply grateful' to the King and Queen for hosting them at Windsor Castle and that it was a 'unique privilege' to be the first US president to be welcomed to the UK for a state visit, twice.
