"At the moment, we cannot in any way assess the potential candidacy of Mrs. Kamala Harris" for the office of US president "from the point of view of our bilateral relations, because so far no contribution of hers to our bilateral relations has been noticed." These were the first words of Putin's spokesman Dmitri Peskov, reported by the Interfax news agency, on the news of the more than likely Democratic nominee in the US presidential race. Indeed, the Kremlin immediately escalated the tone against Harris, pointing out that it had noticed the current vice-president's 'hostile rhetoric' against Russia. "There have been some statements full of rather hostile rhetoric against our country," Peskov said. "So far we have not recorded any more of his actions in relation to bilateral relations with a plus or minus sign," Vladimir Putin's spokesman added.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning, however, declined to comment on US President Joe Biden's announcement to drop his re-election bid and his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris. 'The US elections are an internal matter of the United States. No comment,' Mao replied to a specific question during the daily briefing.
Joe Biden's step back and Kamala Harris's 'descent into the field' have revitalised donations to the Democratic Party. In just a few hours, the ActBlue platform received $46.7 million from small donors. The Vice-President of the United States will today hold her first public outing after the weekend's news; the scheduled event is at 11.30 a.m. Washington time at the White House as part of an initiative of the College Athletic Association. The vice president has so far won the endorsement of more than 500 Democratic delegates, out of a total of 4,700 who will be at the party's convention scheduled for August in Chicago, for her nomination as November's presidential candidate. This is reported by CNN, according to which this number is set to grow in the coming months.
