'La clemenza di Tito' for the Season Opening at La Fenice Theatre in Venice

La clemenza di Tito by Mozart is staged at the Teatro La Fenice on the 20th, with performances on the 23rd, 25th, 27th and 30th. For some time now, La Fenice has been opening in correspondence with the Festa della Salute (21 November), instituted as thanksgiving for the end of the plague in 1630-31. In Clemenza we encounter the struggle for power and love, a very human but also very political drama. Conducted by Ivor Bolton, who knows Mozart's operas well; fine company of singers; directed by Paul Curran (Abbiati Critics' Award), whose stagings for Tristan and Isolde, Peter Grimes, and Ariadne auf Naxos have already been appreciated by Venetian audiences. The premiere will be broadcast live (at 7 pm) by Rai Radio3.
