La Scala closes 2025 in profit and sets a record for ticket sales
Revenues of 36.5 million from the box office. Contract signed with Myung-Whun Chung, director from 2027. New Premiu price range introduced
Record box office receipts for La Scala in Milan, which closed 2025 with a profit of 200,000 euro, according to the balance sheet approved by the Foundation's board of directors.
The value of production was EUR 133.2m, up by 3% compared to the previous year. Ticketing revenue reached 36.5 million, up by 2.5 million compared to 2024, setting a new record. In detail, revenues from operas grew by 1.4 million and those from ballet by 1.1 million, also thanks to an increase in the number of spectators.

The auditorium occupancy rate was 95 per cent for opera (up from 92 per cent in the previous year and 80 per cent in 2019), and 92 per cent for dance, an increase of 4 per cent in one season.
Looking at the breakdown of funding sources, in the 2025 budget the public share decreased in percentage terms and now accounts for less than one third of the total, while private contributions account for 20%, sponsorship revenues 13% and fundrising 8%. In contrast, 27% came from ticketing.
The theatre also announced that the board of directors has authorised the superintendent, Fortunato Ortombina, to sign the contract of maestro Myung-Whun Chung as the new music director. Myung-Whun Chung will succeed Riccardo Chailly, who will remain in the post until the end of 2026.
