An 18-year-old student died after being stabbed in class by a classmate at the Einaudi - Chiodo vocational institute in La Spezia. The episode dates back to the morning of Friday 16 January, when an argument between the boys turned into a tragedy.
The dynamics of the stabbing
In the late morning, the 118 emergency services intervened and transported the boy to the emergency room of St. Andrew's Hospital. The stab wound perforated the 18-year-old's spleen, diaphragm and a piece of his lung. After initial treatment at the scene, he underwent emergency surgery to reduce his injuries. The student lost a lot of blood and suffered a cardiac arrest, but doctors initially managed to revive him. In the afternoon, the young man was operated on and transferred to intensive care, passing a delicate first step that had raised hopes of a positive outcome. Too serious proved to be the deep wound caused by the stab wound inflicted by his companion, who was arrested by the police and will be charged with murder.
The investigators are working to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the attack. According to initial information, the episode was caused by an argument that started in the school's toilets and continued in the classroom. It was here, shortly before midday, that the stabbing allegedly took place during a break from class. Police also recovered the weapon used in the wounding, a long kitchen knifethat the assailant had brought from home.
The motive
The quarrel allegedly arose over relations with a girl, a schoolmate from the same school, possibly for jealousy reasons. The young woman was heard this afternoon by the police mobile squad investigating to reconstruct the incident. She was in shock because she was present at the school although not an eyewitness to the events. The girl was aware of the discord between the two students, and thanks to her testimony the investigators found confirmation of the origins of the disagreement that allegedly led to the attack.
