Lack of doctors: Sorrento Foundation and Russo Hotel's offer six residences for free

Lack of hospital doctors: Sorrento runs for cover. With an agreement between the Sorrento Foundation and Russo Hotel's, free accommodation has been reserved for doctors who agree to work in the town hospital.

The shortage of doctors had become chronic after many competition winners gave up their appointments. The cause? Firstly, the difficulty in finding accommodation within the peninsular area. Equally daunting was the possibility of commuting due to the intense road traffic between Naples and the peninsula.

Faced with the risk of a serious emergency, and in order to ensure health care for both citizens and the many guests who choose Sorrento and the surrounding area for their holidays, the Sorrento Foundation, chaired by Gianluigi Aponte, set out to look for residences to offer to the white coats.

This led to an agreement with the company Russo Hotel's: Fondazione Sorrento acquired the availability of the free loan of the accommodation for six sanitary facilities until 31 December 2026. The problem was thus solved for the current year.

"We are attentive to the problems of healthcare on the peninsula _ explains the Managing Director of the Sorrento Foundation, Gaetano Milano - This is how it was at the time of Covid, with direct intervention in emergencies, and this is how it is today through initiatives that are the responsibility of the institution we represent". For the 2026 tourist season, an interpreting service has also been activated at the city hospital. Two multilingual units guarantee their presence at the facility in the time slots between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. to ensure the exchange of information between medical staff and patients from abroad and also with their families. In addition, the employees also ensure telephone availability and, in case of need, also provide assistance to the police forces operating in the Sorrento peninsula.
