Only 15 examples already sold, electrified V12 engine and open bodywork in 'targa' configuration. It is called the Fenomeno Roadster and it is, of course, the open-top variant of the Fenomeno 'fuoriserie' that appeared a year ago with a somewhat exaggerated and almost brash name, but which is quite fitting for a Lamborghini in a limited series. After all, Lambo cars are excessive in terms of performance, price, style and positioning. And the few-offs are even more so: after all, the Fenomeno coupé was offered in 29 examples for over 3 million euro while that of the new roadster even doubles: 6 million euro. It was also a well-timed move to boost the margins of the Italian Volkswagen/Audi group company.
Unveiled during the second Lamborghini Arena, the Fenomeno Roadster is part of a lineage of open supercars, a tradition that saw the light of day in 2009 with the Reventón Roadster and has continued over the years with the likes of the Veneno, Centenario and Sián.
The natural evolution of the coupé version is officially the most powerful open-top ever to leave the plants in Sant'Agata Bolognese thanks to a complex hybrid propulsion system.
Powering the Fenomeno Roadster is the legendary 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine. Capable of delivering 835 hp alone at a speed of 9,250 rpm, this power unit works in harmony with three electric motors: two are positioned on the front axle to provide all-wheel drive and active torque distribution, while the third is located above the eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. The combination of these units generates a total power output of 1,080 hp, a figure that allows performance previously unthinkable for an open-top road car.
In fact, the Fenomeno Roadster is able to burn through the sprint from zero to one hundred kilometres per hour in just 2.4 seconds, reaching 200 km/h in just 6.8 seconds, with a constant thrust that only stops beyond the 340 km/h threshold. And to stop this bolide in the shortest possible space, Lamborghini has equipped the Fenomeno Roadster with a braking system called Ccm-R Plus. These special carboceramic discs are made from a complex three-dimensional structure of carbon fibres, making them ultra-resistant and capable of offering powerful and constant braking. And this even after prolonged use. The discs have a specific protective coating and can also count on an internal ventilation system that keeps temperatures under control during the most extreme riding.
