“Paesaggio che vai. Cammini d’Italia per fare comunità” gets underway – an initiative by Acri and 12 banking foundations
From the north to the islands, passing through 11 regions of Italia, with the aim of promoting walking routes as spaces for participation, sustainability and collective identity
Key points
A journey through history and culture. From the north to the islands, passing through 11 regions of Italia, with the aim of promoting walking routes as spaces for participation, sustainability and collective identity. This is the objective of “Paesaggio che vai. Walking Trails of Italy: Building Community’, the new experimental initiative that combines landscape conservation and local development, promoted by 12 foundations belonging to Acri (the organisation that brings together banking foundations and savings banks) and coordinated by the Fondazione Cariplo.
The trial
“‘Paesaggio che vai’ is an experimental project that focuses on footpaths as part of our cultural and landscape heritage and as an expression of the communities that live along them and use them,” emphasises Donatella Pieri, chair of Acri’s Commission for Cultural Heritage and Activities. – “It is also a concrete example of the value of the system-wide projects promoted by Acri, which offer foundations the opportunity to share experiences, expertise and resources, going beyond the boundaries of individual territories to work together on a national scale.” The project takes the form of “a shared journey that highlights local characteristics and the role of communities in the upkeep and promotion of the trails”.
The Foundations
In addition to the Cariplo Foundation, the following organisations are also involved: the Cassa di Risparmio della Spezia Foundation, the Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo Foundation, the Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca Foundation, the Cassa di Risparmio di Pistoia e Pescia Foundation, the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Torino, the Fondazione Compagnia di San Paolo, the Fondazione con il Sud, the Fondazione del Monte di Bologna e Ravenna, the Fondazione di Modena, the Fondazione di Sardegna and the Fondazione Varrone Cassa di Risparmio di Rieti.
20 walking routes across 11 regions
The 20 routes identified by the project stretch from Lombardy to Piedmont, from Emilia-Romagna to Tuscany, from Liguria to Lazio, from Sardinia to Campania, and from Basilicata to Puglia and Calabria. The twenty routes involved in the pilot scheme are: the Oropa Path of Peace, the Via Francigena between the Susa Valley and northern Tuscany, the Strade dei Forti and the AltraVia in Piedmont; the CAI La Spezia Mountain Trail in Liguria, the Via dei Sensi, the Via dei Deci and the Three Lakes Trail in Lombardy; the Salt Route, from Lombardy to Liguria; the Via Vandelli, the Via del Fantini, the Bologna Montana Art Trail and the Romea Strata – Lungo la Nonantolana in Emilia-Romagna; the Cammino di San Jacopo in Tuscany; the Cammino del Salto in Lazio; the Cammino di San Nilo nel Merkourion in Campania; the Cammino Minerario di Santa Barbara in Sardinia; the Cammino Materano between Basilicata and Apulia; the Cammino di San Francesco di Paola and the Cammino Kalabria coast to coast in Calabria.
The presentations
Third-sector organisations that manage or co-manage the walking routes, supported by the team of experts from Cammini d’Italia, have drawn up projects to enhance the cultural and landscape heritage, each with an indicative value of around 20,000 euros. Depending on the specific case, the initiatives focus on enhancing cultural and landscape heritage, engaging local communities, promoting local activities, and improving accessibility and services for walkers.
