'Law firms of the year', submissions until 25 January
The research is now in its eighth edition. Results in May
The survey on the most outstanding law firms of the year goes into extra time. It will, in fact, be possible to submit reports of law firms that have distinguished themselves in a particular area or territory until 25 January. The survey, carried out by Statista (a German survey company specialising in data collection and processing) for Il Sole 24 Ore, is now in its eighth edition.
The painting
Open to all lawyers, corporate lawyers and clients, the survey is based on a peer-to-peer methodology. Thus, the presence on the "Law Firms of the Year 2026" list will depend on the reports received from other lawyers, corporate lawyers and clients. Once again this year, in fact, the aim for participants is to indicate law firms deemed to be of excellence - with the exception, of course, of their own - both in a single practice and in the territory. Also for this year's edition, Statista will carry out a series of additional checks to avoid multiple or cross-referrals and strengthen compliance with the rules of the peer-to-peer methodology. Any irregular reports will be identified and will not be considered in the analysis. Lists of the most reported firms will be published in May 2026 in a Sole 24 Ore report (both in the print and online editions), accompanied by sector focus, analysis and other insights.
The structure of the survey
There are 15 areas under investigation, reflecting as many specialisations within legal, business and non-business consulting. Here is a list of the areas for which firms can be recommended: environmental, energy and infrastructure; administrative and procurement; banking and finance; litigation and arbitration; corporate; family and successions; labour and welfare; life science and health care; M&A and restructuring; penal; privacy and cybersecurity; property and real estate; intellectual property and Tmt; insurance and damages; tax. There is also the possibility to indicate law firms by geographical location, with a particular focus on Rome and Milan.
How to report studies
The survey moves on several fronts. The first is represented by a series of professionals in the sector that Statista has selected through its databases or that have already been indicated in previous editions and to whom the company has directly sent an invitation to participate, filling in the questionnaire. Any lawyer operating in Italy, however, is encouraged to take part in the initiative and make their own recommendations. To do so, simply fill in the questionnaire at the link dedicated to lawyers. The survey is also open to corporate lawyers and clients who have had experience with lawyersfor private or company-related matters. If you would like your law firm to be added to the auto-complete list that other participants will use, you can do so via the dedicated registration form. Registering your law firm does not imply being included in the final list of law firms of the year.
Participation is voluntary and free and Statista will process data in a totally anonymous form. The results of this research should not be used as the sole source of information for future choices, but evaluated together with other available information on law firms.
