Leapmotor, D19 large suv debuts in China
It is the brand's first model to aim higher. Offered in two variants, one electric-only and the other extended-range hybrid, it is equipped with a large 80.3 kWh battery.
Leapmotor, the Chinese brand of Stellantis, has launched its largest suv in China: the D19, which attempts to revolutionise value for money in the premium sector. Based on the D platform, it is over 5.2 metres long with a wheelbase of over 3.1 metres. It uses an 80.3 kWh battery pack, the largest ever installed on an extended-range hybrid, for a range of up to 500 km. It promises premium features and cutting-edge technology at an affordable price.
The electric version has a range of 720 km
One of the most distinctive design elements is the chrome cladding that wraps around the side windows as well as obscuring the D-pillar. It also features headlamps with a clean body surface and chrome disc wheels. Five colour options are available, green, white, silver, grey and black. The EV version generates a combined power of 724 hp and is combined with a 115 kWh battery pack for a range of around 720 km. The acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h is less than 3 seconds.
The 800 Volt High Voltage Platform
It is worth pointing out that the battery is developed by Catl and integrates both lithium iron phosphate and lithium ternary. Using the 1,000-volt high-voltage platform, the electric variant takes just 15 minutes to recharge 350 km of range. The extended-range hybrid version uses the 800-volt high-voltage platform, a range extender motor and electric motors with a system output of 536 hp.
The interior of the car to be defined in detail
The interior has yet to be seen, but expect a heavily digital cockpit with a dedicated passenger display, along with high quality materials. The D19 will run on two Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets, one running the infotainment, the other powering the suite of available adas, plus a roof-mounted Lidar sensor. While the technical specifications have not yet been announced, the extended range is expected to cover over 630 km.
The car will be launched by the end of the year
Certainly the most noteworthy detail is the price. Leapmotor suggested a starting price of between 250,000 and 300,000 yuan, at an exchange rate of $250,000 to $42,000.
