Leonardo: Mariani, 3.4 billion contract value for Army tanks

‘The second half of the year was busier than the first’

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - The value of the first contract between the Leonardo-Rehinmetall joint venture and the Italian Army for the manufacture of tanks and infantry vehicles “will be in the region of 3.4 billion euros”. This was stated to Radiocor by Leonardo’s CEO, Lorenzo Mariani. “This is an initial phase of the contract for the development and production of the vehicles, specifically the New Main Battle Tank component of the new tank; there is also a subsequent tranche of the contract for the A2CS transport vehicles, which was launched in an initial phase at the end of last year,” he added. Regarding the timing of the signing, the top executive clarified that “the contracts are practically finalised; I do not believe we will be able to sign them by September, but we are still aiming to do so within the year”. Regarding financial expectations for the second half of the year, Mariani explained that: “The second half of the year is always at least as busy as the first, and generally even busier. We have recently raised our guidance on year-end results, and the fact that we have done so means we are confident of achieving the target. Our teams are all hard at work, and we believe that this pace of growth is something that can bring satisfaction to us, our clients and also to those who have invested in and placed their trust in our work.”
