Leonardo is launching its new Aeronautics division, reorganising its fixed-wing aircraft activities and uniting military, civil and customer services under a single structure.
The group led by Roberto Cingolani - according to Radiocor - has decided to merge into the new division the activities currently organised in Aircraft (Eurofighter and F-35 fighters, trainers, military transport and surveillance aircraft) and Aerostructures, which produce large components for Boeing and Airbus in addition to Atr regional aircraft. These activities, already united in the past, had been separated with the overall reorganisation of Finmeccanica launched starting in 2014 by then CEO Mauro Moretti through the so-called 'one company' project.

In 2024, the Aircraft division, according to the balance sheet, totalled EUR 2.86 billion in revenues and had an order backlog of EUR 8 billion as of last December, while the Aerostructures division realised revenues of EUR 746 million and had a backlog of around EUR 1 billion as of 31 December. Stefano Bortoli, the current managing director of Aerostructures, will be in charge of the new division, according to reports.
