Technicians with expertise in health and wellness technologies, prepared to enter the regional life science ecosystem: for Friuli Venezia Giulia, the life science sector means more than 170 active companies that generate a production value of 937 million euro and employ 4,768 people.
The Autonomous Region believes in it and is investing, aiming to make Life Sciences one of the pillars of its growth strategy and putting in place a series of policies to attract innovative companies and start-ups: In three years, some 30 million euros have been allocated and more than 170 companies operating in the biomedical, biotechnology, medical IT and Active&Assisted Living, 12 research organisations of international excellence, 4 research hospitals including the two public IRCCSs (Burlo Garofolo in Trieste and the Cro di Aviano) and two health authorities, the Third Sector, with 10,000 non-profit institutions, three universities, a science park (Area Science Park), three innovation centres (Bic, Polo tecnologico Alto Adriatico and TEC4I FVG) and many research centres.
And then there is training, with the new educational offer of the Higher Technological Institute for Chemistry and New Life Technologies - LifeTech ITS Academy in Trieste. There are five courses that include some new features: for the new year, the Biotech Quality Specialist (technician for the biotech supply chain: food industry, cosmetics, nutraceuticals) and the Wellness and Hospitality Specialist make their debut. Graduates will acquire skills to manage wellness/medical spas, both from a communication and management and technical/healthcare point of view (properties of thermal waters, basics of dermatology, cosmetics, nutraceutics). Economic and scientific subjects and languages will be studied. The qualification awarded is a sixth-level Advanced Specialisation Diploma in Applied Technologies, valid both in Italy and in Europe, and - if you wish - once you have obtained the diploma, with just a few exams, you can then also obtain a three-year degree in motor sciences at the eCampus Telematic University. The course will be held in Portopiccolo (Trieste) under the patronage of Federterme. It is also possible to use the 'study-work' formula and alternate hours of training with hours of paid work in companies in the sector.
The other courses are for Biomedical Equipment Technicians, Biomedical Information Technicians and Data network specialists. The ITS Academy is the school of doing: teaching takes place in interactive classrooms and experiential laboratories, which reproduce the hospital environment and are equipped with equipment and software for practical exercises.
The companies' expectations are high. "We produce primary flexible containers for infusion and injectable solutions that pharmaceutical companies fill with the product to be injected through drips," explains Leonardo Maghetti, sole director of Sifra Est, a company with production headquarters in the industrial area of Trieste, more than 100 employees and exports to 33 countries around the world. "The world of work is changing faster and faster and after the pandemic there has been an acceleration in the world of innovation. And the Its Academy with its training courses can meet the training needs of boys and girls who are looking for an employment outlet in a dynamic sector'.
