A 53-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested by the local police following the vehicle collision of several people in the crowd attending Liverpool's English football championship victory parade in the central Water Street. This was reported by the British media, pointing out that according to the first information there are some injured people and that several ambulances rushed to the area, in the centre of the northern English city. In a note, the police refer for the time being to 'a collision' and an accident related to 'road traffic', specifying that the man who was behind the wheel of the car is the one who was stopped.

"The scenes in Liverpool are frightening, my thoughts are with those who were injured or involved," said British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The PM thanked the police and emergency services for their promptness and asked for an update on the investigation, stressing that the investigation into this 'shocking incident' was 'ongoing'.

The Premier League's official reactions were also not long in coming: "Everyone in the Premier League is shocked by the terrible events in Liverpool this evening and our thoughts are with all those injured and those involved," reads the English football league organisation's X profile.
