Lombardy: an area in the Lodi region has been reindustrialised with Rockwool

(Il Sole 24 Ore Radiocor) - An industrial site in the Lodi area, which has been derelict for almost thirty years, is set to be revitalised thanks to a major industrial investment, supported in part by the Lombardy Region as part of its efforts to attract foreign investment. This will once again generate value, jobs and innovation in an area that had been abandoned. Indeed, Rockwool, the world leader in the production of rock wool solutions for building insulation, has completed the purchase of an industrial site covering approximately 40 hectares in the municipality of Bertonico (Lodi), where it will build a state-of-the-art production plant, designed to meet high standards of technological efficiency and environmental sustainability. Construction work is expected to begin once the site remediation project and the authorisation process have been completed. The investment, supported by the Lombardy Region through the ‘Invest in Lombardy’ project, is a concrete example of the regional strategy to attract international capital capable of generating development, employment and the regeneration of the area without further land take. The plant’s output will be destined almost exclusively for the Italia market.

“The arrival of a manufacturing company such as Rockwool in Bertonico demonstrates that Lombardy continues to be an attractive region for those wishing to do business and invest,” said Guido Guidesi, the regional councillor for Economic Development. “This achievement stems from a clear strategy aimed at supporting investors, creating favourable conditions for development and enhancing local ecosystems. The project perfectly embodies our vision: it redevelops a site that has been derelict for thirty years without using up any new land, introduces innovative and sustainable technologies, and generates new opportunities for employment and growth for the Lodi area and the whole of Lombardy,” continued Guidesi.

Maione: ‘The ideal environment for developing new projects’

This initiative not only prevents the use of new land, but also returns to the community an area that has been derelict for thirty years, which is finally being reclaimed, rehabilitated and reintegrated into the productive cycle. Transforming a site in need of remediation into a high-tech green hub means making urban regeneration the driving force behind the ecological transition, combining environmental health, growth and new jobs,” added Giorgio Maione, Regional Councillor for the Environment and Climate.
