Key points
Battersea’s transformation continues: in just a few years, this London neighbourhood has gone from being an out-of-the-way, poorly connected area to a trendy and easily accessible destination, thanks above all to the regeneration of Battersea Power Station and the new underground station of the same name. Every month, a million people visit the former power station, which has been restored and transformed into a luxury shopping centre featuring a wide variety of shops, restaurants, bars and a cinema. The neighbourhood is now one of the most sought-after places to live, not just to shop.
The new complex
A new residential development in Battersea is far from the hustle and bustle, in a quiet corner near the large park and the River Thames.
Ransome’s Wharf, developed by London Square on the site of a historic wharf, comprises 118 flats spread across five buildings overlooking the river and linked by gardens, centred around a square featuring restaurants, bars and shops. Once construction is complete – the planned completion date is 2028 – the flow of water through the old wharf will be restored for the first time in decades.
The site was once home to Ransome & Co, a historic shipbuilding and engineering firm that formed part of the industrial heritage of the Battersea docklands. This tradition has inspired the architectural design, which evokes the solidity of the old brick warehouse structures, with metal details reimagined to create modern, light-filled homes.
Each flat has an external layout, access to the garden on the ground floor and balconies or terraces on the upper floors. The interiors of the flats have been designed by Echlin, a London-based design studio that works with craftspeople to create an authentic look, and residents will have access to concierge services and secure underground parking. Battersea Park and its riverside walk are just a stone’s throw away, whilst a short stroll across Albert Bridge leads to the Chelsea neighbourhood.
Prices for the flats start from £1.1 million.
The survey
London Square, part of Aldar, the United Arab Emirates’ largest property group, has commissioned a survey on how London is perceived by potential foreign buyers. The researchers surveyed 1,000 people living in five major cities – Paris, Hong Kong, New York, Singapore and Dubai.
