Longevity Valley: a new biotech hub dedicated to the science of longevity and preventive medicine is launched in Lazio
A project for a high-tech campus in Lazio, which brings together businesses, international research and institutions to accelerate biotechnological innovation and tackle the challenges of a global ageing population, was presented yesterday at the Italian Embassy in Washington.
The “Longevity Valley” project was presented yesterday at the Italian Embassy in Washington; it is an initiative aimed at developing, in Lazio, a campus and a next-generation scientific and industrial ecosystem dedicated to the science of longevity and preventive medicine. The initiative, promoted by the Longevity Valley Authority in collaboration with a group of international companies and investors, involves the creation of a campus with shared research facilities based on artificial intelligence, automation and bioengineering, designed to host international companies and scientific institutions, with positive implications for both science and employment. The project is being overseen by the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, through the Technical Secretariat of the Interministerial Committee for Attracting Foreign Investment (CAIE), in close collaboration with the Lazio Region.
The campus
Specifically, Longevity Valley aims to create a campus capable of supporting the next generation of biotech and deep tech companies, offering even the smallest organisations access to laboratories and technologies that would otherwise be beyond their reach, in order to accelerate the journey from scientific discovery to commercial application. An ecosystem dedicated to preventive medicine and longevity will develop around the campus, in collaboration with leading international scientific institutions, including the Buck Institute for Research on Aging, recognised worldwide as one of the leading centres for research into the biology of ageing.
The trial
Alongside research into new therapies and devices, the project aims to explore, through real-world trials, the contribution of sectors such as healthcare, nutrition, the built environment, mobility and the organisation of work, producing scientific evidence and models applicable far beyond the local area, with the potential to have a significant impact on societies where an ageing population represents a growing economic challenge.
Reference hub
“With this project, Italia is positioning itself to become a leading hub in the field of longevity sciences. An initiative that combines scientific research, industrial development and skilled employment, with significant benefits for Lazio and the entire national production system,” said the Minister for Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso. “It is the result of teamwork with the Region and the private sector, demonstrating our country’s ability to attract major international investment and translate it into concrete opportunities for development,” he concluded.
A leading region in biotechnology
“We are a leading region in biotechnology and the life sciences. The choice of Lazio to host the major Longevity Valley project confirms the strength of an ecosystem that has once again become capable of attracting international investment and fostering innovation. Our aim is to transform this wealth of research and expertise into tangible opportunities: new skilled jobs, economic growth and innovative solutions to improve people’s health and quality of life. The Lazio Regional Government will resolutely support every stage of this project, which we consider to be both strategic and historic,” emphasised the President of the Lazio Region, Francesco Rocca.
