The clash in the 5-Star Movement

M5s, encore vote on statute: quorum passed, abolition of guarantor confirmed. Grillo (for now) defeated

64.9% of the members voted (at the first call for online voting, participation was 61.2%). The quorum of half + 1 of the votes, necessary to make the changes to the statute valid, was amply exceeded. The yes vote for the abolition of the Supervisor was 46,747, or 80.56%.

Quorum reached and the cancellation of the figure of the guarantor confirmed. This is the outcome of the vote-bis on the changes to the statute of the Five Star Movement requested by Beppe Grillo, who tried to save his role in the Movement by campaigning for abstention. Instead, the quorum of 50% + 1 of the voters was amply exceeded.

Guarantee removal confirmed with 80.56% of the votes

58,029 registered voters, or 64.9% of those eligible to vote. More than the 61.23% registered at the first vote from 20 to 23 November. The yes vote for the abolition of the guarantor was 46,747, or 80.56%. Almost 4,000 more members took part in the encore vote for the 5-star statute. "In case I don't see you again, good afternoon, good evening and good night". With these words, after learning the result of the encore vote on parts of the 5-Star statute, Beppe Grillo took to social media.

Conte: M5s now turns over a new leaf, the Movement rebuilds itself

"The M5S has re-voted. It has re-voted en masse: quorum largely exceeded with participation even higher than a fortnight ago. This is the disruptive wave of a community that knows no limits or obstacles, in which everyone really counts. Now we turn the page. The Movement is rebuilding itself on the indications that came with Nova from the members. We move forward with great strength, with pride in what we have done but our eyes fixed on the future. We have an immense passion and many battles to do all together to change the country'. This is how M5s leader Giuseppe Conte, on the other hand, commented on the outcome of the voting for changes to the statute.

The fight goes on

.

However, the ballot-box response will hardly serve to put an end to the clash between Beppe Grillo and Giuseppe Conte that has been going on for weeks. A duel to the sound of accusations, even by letter, with the Genoese comedian's mocking announcement that he had sent a missive to Elly Schlein to "recommend" Conte as leader of the PD "given the votes he transferred from the Movement to the PD". And the M5s leader's reply of wanting to send a missive to Mario Draghi to suggest 'Grillo in the role of advisor'. The situation is evidently irretrievable and the result of the new vote will only serve to certify the distance between the founder of the Movement and the former Prime Minister. The paths are irretrievably divided. With Grillo ready to take legal action to get the symbol back.

In recent days, it was Grillo who had decreed 'the death of M5s' as he had imagined it, to make way for an unspecified new initiative. A project crushed by the M5s leader, who bluntly accused him of acting as 'absolute monarch'. Not only that, the now former guarantor is reproached for having 'disregarded the path that the M5s community wanted to take'. An attitude, precisely of 'absolute sovereign' to which the Movement's base, as Conte has always reminded us, has decided to give a break.
