A rather special occasion was offered by one of the great European Easter festivals, that of Baden-Baden, with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra in the pit for the opera 'Madama Butterfly'; and similarly rare conducting by Kirill Petrenko. In Paris, a classic American musical 'Gipsy'; a semi-staged version, certainly, but with a great performer like Natalie Dessay in the title role.
Baden-Baden (Germany)
On 12-15-20 at the Festspielhaus a special occasion to hear the Berlin Philharmonic with its conductor Kirill Petrenko in Puccini's opera "Madama Butterfly"; in the title role Eleonora Buratto (who inaugurated as Tosca the Season of the Accademia di S. Cecilia); the direction is by Davide Livermore, whose inaugurations at La Scala in recent years we remember. Thus opens the Easter Festival, which continues until 21 April. The numerous concerts include those of the Berlin Philharmonic: on the 13th and 19th, conductor Klaus Mäkelä, pianist Leif Ove Andsnes (music by R. Strauss and Rachmaninov); on the 18th and 21st, conductor Petrenko (music by Beethoven); on the 14th, conductor Jakub Hrůša (Bartók, Beethoven).
Paris
From the 16th to the 19th at the Philharmonie de Paris, a classic of the musical as "Gipsy", staged in 1959, music by Jule Styne (Oscar-winner, we remember musicals such as "Funny Girl" and "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes"), song lyrics by a giant like Stephen Sondheim, libretto by Arthur Laurents ("West Side Story", among others). In a semi-staged version signed by Laurent Pelly (currently at La Scala with 'L'opera seria'), the celebrated soprano Natalie Dessay plays the title role.
Milan
Many artists in April at the Blue Note jazz club. Great expectations and a set already sold out. On the 10th Chiara Galiazzo, three times at the Sanremo Festival, presents her new single 'Valore' and the best-known songs from her repertoire. Great expectations and a set already sold out.
On the 18th the Blue Note becomes Chicago, with a band led by Alex Usai, from the muddy blues of Muddy Waters to the rock'n roll of Chuck Berry. The damned harmonicas of Little Walter and Junior Wells and the legacy of B.B King will mix with the blues revival of the Blues Brothers and Robert Cray.
