Man dies after becoming trapped in a grape-harvesting machine in the Trapani area
A second person was also injured whilst attempting to help
The victim of a workplace accident that occurred in the Quaranta Salme district – a rural area of Alcamo on the border between the provinces of Trapani and Palermo – was 67-year-old Stefano Palumbo. The man became trapped in the machinery used for harvesting grapes and died, whilst another person who was with him, Massimo Lauria, aged 57, was injured in the arms whilst attempting to rescue him and is now in a critical condition at the Civico Hospital in Palermo. According to the account so far, the two were harvesting grapes when the machine jammed and, whilst trying to get it working again, the man became trapped and lost his life. Carabinieri from the Alcamo Company were at the scene to establish the sequence of events, along with technicians from Spresal.
