The Capaci massacre, one of the bloodiest manifestations of Mafia inhumanity, was an attack of unprecedented ferocity against the freedom and dignity of Italians". This is what we read in a statement by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella on 'Legality Day'.

"On 23 May 1992, Italy stood still before the horror of the Capaci massacre in which Judge Giovanni Falcone, his wife and colleague Francesca Morvillo and escort agents Vito Schifani, Rocco Dicillo and Antonio Montinaro lost their lives. Remembering this painful page in our history today means not letting the sacrifice of those who gave their lives for justice be forgotten'. Premier Giorgia Meloni wrote this on X.
"This is also why we have been celebrating the National Legality Day since 2002: a time not only to remember the victims of all mafias, but to make young people in particular aware of the importance of legality and civil commitment. Because it is from memory and from our daily choices that we can build a future free from fear and indifference'.
