Mattarella: 'State resources supported by taxes of employees and pensioners'

"The International Labour Organisation certifies that the share of income from work - i.e. the share of GDP allocated to workers - has dropped significantly worldwide from 2014 to 2024," the Head of State recalled. "This is a theme that the European Central Bank also points out for Italy: the robust growth of the economy that followed the Covid, has not been matched by the defence and increase of real wages, while positive results have been achieved by shareholders and robust bonuses have affected some among the managers

"It is the tax revenues from public and private employees, from pensioners, that provide the State, through taxes, with the largest volume of resources," Mattarella continued. Sheltering - from the social partners to the institutions - must not consist in pursuing welfare policies, but rather be a choice of development and, therefore, of far-sighted social cohesion
"The phenomenon of 'pirate contracts' is worrying"
"The results of a recent Confcommercio survey, which highlighted the worrying phenomenon of the growth of so-called 'pirate contracts', draw our attention," Mattarella said, "to the more than one thousand national collective labour contracts filed with the CNEL: two hundred and fifty in the tourism and service sectors alone. Among these, there are contracts signed by unions and employers' representatives that are poorly representative, with real forms of contractual dumping that have the effect of reducing workers' rights and protections, lowering wage levels, and causing unfair competition between companies
"Work cannot mean 'risk of life'"
Finally, the President of the Republic sent out a clear message: 'Today we have awarded Stars to the memory, to the families of Angelo Catania, Maurizio Curti, Loris Nadali, who died at work. We will not tire of repeating it: work cannot mean risking your life. Angelo, Maurizio, Loris, they should be here today, with us'.
