We tested Mazda CX-30 and Mazda3, the two models at the heart of the Japanese brand's range, along an evocative route in Sicily passing through places rich in history, such as Noto and Caltagirone.

The new features of the two models

.

Aesthetically nothing changes. The Mazda3 and CX-30 retain the elegant, tried and tested style of Kodo Design. While the interior features the classic attention to detail of Japanese craftsmen and the ergonomics typical of Jinba Ittai made in Mazda.

The most important change concerns the engine: the 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv G is introduced, delivering 140 hp and 238 Nm of torque at 3,300 rpm. Following Mazda's 'right-sizing' approach, this new architecture delivers rich torque at low and medium revs for a more comfortable daily drive and remarkable brilliance at high revs. Driving the car feels snappy but not overly sporty, and we enjoyed both the pairing with the six-speed automatic transmission and the six-speed manual.

The engine is also equipped with Mazda's M-Hybrid cylinder deactivation system and electrification system, which contribute to improved driving comfort and real-world performance thanks to 16 per cent higher torque, and improved fuel efficiency with a 1.65 per cent decrease in average fuel consumption to a peak of minus 7.1 per cent on the motorway compared to the previous 122 hp e-Skyactiv-G engine, which it replaces along with the 150 hp.

Alexa voice assistant comes on board

.

Mazda has significantly improved connectivity and technology features for the MY2025 Mazda3 (also available with a three-box body) and the MY2025 CX-30. Both models are now equipped with the Alexa voice assistant that allows control of the climate control, rear window defrosting and seat heating systems, as well as allowing access to artificial intelligence and home automation control from Amazon's well-known voice assistant. The updated navigation system offers more points of interest online and offline, now having the ability to be connected.

There are four trim versions: Prime Line, Centre Line, Exclusive Line and Takumi. To which are added two special versions, Homura and Nagisa already introduced in the previous model.

List prices start at 27,350 euro for the Mazda3 and 27,950 euro for the CX-30.
