The 2027 Mazda MX-5: the icon of driving pleasure evolves, with new versions and even more character
After more than 35 years on the market and over 1.2 million units sold worldwide, the Japanese two-seater is being revamped for 2027 with new customisation options, more refined details and technical upgrades.
Key points
There are cars that do not follow trends, but manage to remain relevant precisely because they remain true to their own identity. The Mazda MX-5 falls into this category: launched over 35 years ago with the aim of putting the relationship between driver and car back at the heart of the experience, it has become the world’s best-selling roadster, with over 1.2 million units sold.
For 2027, Mazda is introducing a series of targeted updates that reinforce the car’s sporty character, the Kodo design and the philosophy of ‘pure driving pleasure’ that has always been at the heart of the model. Production will begin in May 2026 for models destined for left-hand-drive markets, and the first cars will arrive at European dealerships from September 2026.
The new Yakudo MX-5 is here: more elegant and contemporary
The main new feature of the 2027 range is the new Yakudo Special Version, a special series dedicated to the Soft Top version, which offers a more sophisticated take on the MX-5.
The name Yakudo evokes a Japanese expression associated with dynamic movement and vitality – values that Mazda has sought to convey through a design featuring exclusive details: silver-coloured exterior elements, silver Brembo brake calipers and an interior enhanced by Alcantara upholstery and finishes with meticulous attention to detail.
A proposal that embodies Mazda’s ‘Crafted with Japanese Soul’ philosophy – an approach that combines technology, design and traditional Japanese craftsmanship.
