Mazda Vision X-Coupé: the sports car that captures the CO₂ with phev rotary engine.
The Hiroshima-based manufacturer anticipates plug-in hybrid technologies based on a Wankel engine with a Concept, and unveils a prototype foreshadowing the future Mazda 2
Mazda unveiled two concepts at the Japan Mobility Show 2025 that outline its vision of sustainable mobility for the future: the Vision X-Coupé and the Vision X-Compact. Both represent the synthesis of driving pleasure, efficiency and intelligent connectivity, in line with the theme chosen by the manufacturer for this edition: "The joy of driving fuels a sustainable future."
Vision X-Coupé: the return of the rotary, in a hybrid
The Mazda Vision X-Coupé is a 5.05-metre-long 2+2 sports coupe characterised by low, streamlined proportions that further evolve the Kodo - Soul of Motion design language. Clean, taut surfaces combined with essential details express a dynamic, purist aesthetic.
Under the bonnet, the X-Coupé adopts a plug-in hybrid system based on a twin-turbo rotary engine coupled with an electric motor and a high-capacity battery. The total power output is 510 hp, with a range of 160 km in electric mode and up to 800 km in combined use.
A distinctive feature is Mazda's Mobile Carbon Capture technology, which absorbs CO₂ during driving, reducing the overall impact of emissions. The system works in synergy with zero-emission synthetic fuels derived from microalgae, reinforcing the company's strategy towards carbon neutrality.
The Vision X-Compact explores the theme of the connection between man and machine on a more technological and sensory level. At 3.83 metres long, the urban concept introduces a digital human sensory model integrated with an empathic AI capable of supporting natural dialogues with the driver and suggesting routes or points of interest.
