The officialdom is still missing, but in the last few hours the siege that has been girded for months around the top office of the State General Accounting Office seems to have reached its goal. Biagio Mazzotta , who became Accountant General on 23 May 2019 after exactly 30 years of a management career in the rooms of Via XX Settembre, has reportedly reluctantly accepted the offer of the presidency of Fincantieri, left vacant in mid-June by the tragic death of General Claudio Graziano. The co-option could already take place at the board meeting on 30 July.
Yesterday, according to what is gathered from the rooms of the Mef, from which the minister Giancarlo Giorgetti is far away because he is busy in Rio de Janeiro for the G20-G7 ministerial meeting, Mazzotta is said to have begun to take leave of his closest collaborators, in a front line that according to unanimous predictions will soon be called to answer to Daria Perrotta, the current head of the ministry's legislative office. If the converging rumours are confirmed Perrotta, born in 1977, would become the first woman to occupy the top box at the General Accounting Office.
Relations between Mazzotta and the government have been complicated for some time, to the point that speculation of his departure has been circulating cyclically for a year now. The main accusation against the current Accountant General is the Superbonus, or rather the soaring costs compared to initial estimates. The final bill (153 billion with the Sismabonus) has been inflated by the almost unanimous pressure of politics for extensions and extensions of the measure, which in the past have ignited more than one battle with the technicians even if far from the spotlight of public debate. At Rgs Giorgetti, the author two years ago of the first public criticism of the Superbonus from a then solitary position, particularly contests the absence of preventive monitoring mechanisms, in a flood wave that has caused even the dam attempted with the first anti-110% decree of February 2023 to collapse.
Perrotta has worked side by side with Giorgetti for many years, first in the Budget Committee at the Chamber of Deputies and then, in Conte-1, at Palazzo Chigi where the current holder of the accounts was undersecretary to the presidency. But in the same offices Perrotta was also coordinator of the technical secretariat of Maria Elena Boschi between 2016 and 2018 and head of cabinet of Roberto Garofoli during the Draghi government.
