For those who aspire to work in one of McDonald's shops, there is certainly room. Over the next two years, the chain known for its hamburgers and fries will hire 5,000 people. This was announced by the managing director herself, Giorgia Favaro, on the sidelines of a conference at the Rimini Meeting also attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida.

Investments and recruitment

The manager explained that 'Italy is a key country for McDonald's, at the centre of an important growth plan: we estimate total investments of around EUR 800 million by 2027, including new openings and remodelling of existing restaurants, and we confirm our support for the Italian food sector, where we invest more than EUR 400 million every year. A path that, already by the end of this year, will lead us to reach about 800 restaurants in the territory and create over 5,000 new jobs'. These numbers, according to Favaro's assessment, would be 'the equivalent of the sum of our first two competitors, to give an element of comparison, and 3 euros of shared value over the entire supply chain for every euro invoiced by our restaurants'.

The supply chain model

.

The first McDonald's restaurant was opened 40 years ago and since then the American chain's objective has always been to create 'a model that combines accessibility, taste and innovation, to continue to guarantee customers, especially families, the possibility of enjoying a tasty meal at an affordable price, in a welcoming environment. To confirm this, we have introduced and strengthened platforms such as the new Menu Salvaeuro, available every day at a maximum cost of EUR 4.95, in all McDonald's locations in Italy'.

The 2024 budget

.

The new investments come after EUR 235 million were invested in the opening of 51 new restaurants in 2024. These openings "according to the report recently carried out for us by Althesys, it is estimated that by the end of 2025 they will generate a shared value of 164.5 million euro," says Favaro. "A result equivalent to almost 1% of the growth of Italian GDP expected in the current year. These openings have helped generate 2,858 employees, for 48.2 million wages and contributions, corresponding to the consumption of 800 families'.
