Laser treatments are becoming more and more popular due to their non-invasive nature and short recovery times, so much so that in the United States, an estimated $20 billion will be spent on aesthetic medical procedures in 2023. Medical lasers are widely used in dermatology, aesthetic medicine, urology, ophthalmology and dentistry. North America has the largest market share of 45%, ahead of Europe (26%) and Asia-Pacific (21%).
"In the medical laser sector, the real competitive advantage lies in the adoption of a customised treatment approach, tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual patient,' says Girolamo Lionetti, CEO of Quanta System, a manufacturer of laser technologies for surgery, dermatology, aesthetic medicine and art conservation.
The growing demand for non-invasive surgical and dermatological treatments is driving the development of the global medical laser market. In fact, according to research by Precedence Research, the latter will reach $25 billion in value by 2034, up 220% from an estimated $7.75 billion in value by 2025.
In terms of market share, it is the North American region that leads the way, with 45%, driven by the growing preference among the population for aesthetic medicine procedures using minimally invasive methods such as lasers, so much so that in the USA, in 2023, an expenditure of around 20 billion dollars has been recorded for this type of treatment. After North America we find Europe, which holds a market share of just over a quarter (26%), driven by the increase in the use of laser treatment to treat ophthalmic disorders and, within the EU, it is Germany where the demand for laser treatments has increased the most. Europe is followed by the Asia-Pacific region (21%) thanks to the development of healthcare infrastructure and the increase in the number of laser centres in the region, while Latin America (5%), the Middle East and Africa (3%) close the ranking.
Medical lasers are used in dermatology, surgery, ophthalmology and dentistry, and the growing global demand for non-invasive and easily accessible medical treatments is positively influencing the development of this market to the extent that the demand for laser surgeries is steadily increasing in both developing and developed countries, all due to the increasing importance of aesthetics. In recent years, the remarkable global spread of social media has triggered a consequent increase in aesthetic awareness and greater availability of treatments on the market. This scenario has prompted the population to increasingly turn towards medical and surgical solutions aimed at preserving an appearance more in line with their desires.
