Mediobanca: Caltagirone replies to Nagel, he did not tell falsehoods? he wrote them

Mediobanca CEO Alberto Nagel's statements regarding the Mps offer are false. This was reaffirmed by the Caltagirone Group's press office, further fuelling today's back-and-forth with press releases.

"Dr. Nagel," reads the note, "denies ever having commented on ABB on 13 November 2024 in his explanation of the Mediobanca document of 11 July. It is worth reading what he wrote on page 81 of that document, which is quoted here: "these anomalies include the fact that (i) the four bidders submitted bids with the exact same premium (5%) over the Mps share price almost simultaneously". It is therefore true that he did not say this, he wrote it! We reiterate that the above is false,' underlines the note.

As for the purchase of Mps shares in the period prior to the Shareholders' Meeting, 'despite the fact that newspaper clippings are used to try to mystify the facts, it is reiterated that more than two months before the Mps Shareholders' Meeting of 17 April, the Caltagirone Group had already reached the 9 per cent threshold. Therefore, unequivocally what was stated is false. This is to protect correct and transparent information to the market,' the note concludes.

In the previous note, he also underlined: It is 'false that the Caltagirone Group offered the same price as the other successful bidders in the Accelerated bookbuilding procedure with which on 13 November 2024 the Mef sold shares in Mps, as demonstrated by the fact that the price offered by the Caltagirone Group was higher than the winning price, which shows that there were lower priced bids to which the final price set by the bookrunner was aligned'.
