Medov group goes shopping, acquired Programma mare
The Schenone family holding company re-brands and starts a process of business diversification
New brand for the holding company of the Genoese Schenone family, which becomes Medov group and starts its new course with the acquisition of the majority shares of Programma mare, a historic La Spezia-based company that has innovated traditional packaging methods for the storage and shipping, at an international level, of yachts and boats.
The new commercial brand, which replaces the previous name, I.L. Investimenti (founded in 2005), continues to operate in the shipping, logistics, supply chain and yachting sectors, with its 300 employees worldwide and a consolidated turnover of around 103 million euros, as well as 10 subsidiaries, to which the new acquisition is added. President and CEO of the Medov group is Giulio Schenone, who explains the reasons that led him to decide to purchase Programma Mare. An operation whose value has not been disclosed but which, according to market rumours, is in the region of 3 million euros.
Target: from services to production
"The idea,' says Schenone, 'is to diversify and move into new sectors, which, however, must be, in some way, synergetic or complementary, because we must be able to bring some of our expertise to the acquisitions we make, even if they concern substantially different things. And Sea Programme is the first real diversification from the traditional Medov group companies that have so far offered services. With this company we are also starting to provide a product, not just a service. And, at the same time, we are broadening the spectrum of activity; a fundamental factor for a family business. Because if we only had one or two activities, in such a turbulent geopolitical moment, we would risk being put out of business.
The company has a small logistics centre, with a warehouse where the polyethylene sheets are stored. Early in the morning, a van with a team of workers and a foreman goes to the yard where the boat is to be packed, and normally the workers do the job in a day, setting up the necessary scaffolding and everything else. Then, when they have finished, they go back. Sometimes, for particularly complex jobs, they have to stay away for two or three days. In short, then, we produce at the customer's yard.
