Premier time

Meloni-Schlein clash on health care. The premier: 'You are making propaganda'. The Pd leader: 'Fake decree on waiting lists'.

The Prime Minister said that the executive did not agree with the Israeli government's recent proposals. But she reiterated that "it was not Israel that initiated the hostilities and that there was a design behind the inhuman attacks by Hamas and the cruelty directed at the hostages"

Sparks broke out in the Chamber of Deputies during premier time between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and opposition leaders Giuseppe Conte (M5s) and Elly Schlein on arms and healthcare. The first real verbal clash was with the president of the Movement who, first, addressed the premier as follows: "She has given priority to weapons over the urgencies of citizens and businesses that she continues to disregard: why has she let herself be fooled like this in Europe twice?" "I do not remember her taking the same line when as premier she signed up to the increase in military spending. She is not the same person,' Meloni poked Meloni. 'It must have been one of the many Giuseppi we have seen over the years. At the end Conte called on all parliamentarians to stand up to 'condemn in silence the extermination' in Gaza. An invitation to which the parliamentary minority responded. "Remain seated, shame on you!" the Pentastellist said at that point, attacking the Prime Minister for the last time.

Fight with Schlein on healthcare

Schlein's new round immediately followed: 'Public health is collapsing, waiting lists are endless', 'health migration from south to north has increased', 'you have brought health spending to an all-time low', said the PDD secretary, waving graphs at Meloni. 'Health spending is calculated on GDP, you have made a decree without resources on waiting lists', 'the question is why are you dismantling public health'. The premier responded by pointing out that it is 'always complex to deal with someone who is forced to lie in order to make propaganda. The national health fund is at the highest level ever, when we took office in 2022 that fund was 126 billion, 10 billion less than now. And the Pd when it was in government never dreamed of making increases like the one we have made in these two years." 'I understand that, for example, it was we who stopped the odious phenomenon of token doctors, which is indeed a privatisation of healthcare,' he countered. Schlein's retort was harsh: 'When you were in government you put a cap on hospital recruitment. People can't get healthcare, shame on you!" 'You want health care to fit people's wallets' and this is a 'real tax Meloni, treating oneself has become a luxury'.

Meloni: we do not agree with Israel's recent proposals

.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza was instead the focus of Avs's question. 'In recent months I have heard Prime Minister Netanyahu on several occasions, they have often been difficult conversations in which I have always recalled the urgency of finding a way to end the hostilities and respect international law and international humanitarian law. A request that I renew today as well, in the face of a humanitarian situation in Gaza that I have no difficulty in describing as increasingly dramatic and unjustifiable,' Meloni said in response to Avs MP Angelo Bonelli. The Prime Minister added: "We did not agree with several choices and we do not share the Israeli government's recent proposals and we have not failed to say so to our interlocutors, aware as we are that it was not Israel that started the hostilities and that there was a design behind Hamas's inhuman attacks and the cruelty directed at the hostages".

"Italy will not recall the ambassador to Israel"

.

But the Prime Minister also explained that she is convinced that "on the basis of the many conversations I have had in recent months with the leaders of the Region, we can work towards a regional political and security framework capable of putting an end to the conflict, paving the way for a process leading to a two-state solution, and I remain convinced that in order to do this we must start from the reconstruction plan proposed by the Arab paresis. It is towards this goal that the government remains committed, working with the leaders of the region, with our European partners, with the United States. We will do this by maintaining an open, frank, if necessary critical dialogue with everyone. And this is exactly why it is not the intention of the Italian government to recall the Italian ambassador to Israel'.

Count appeals to silence for Gaza, oppositions on their feet

I appeal to all colleagues: let us give a sign of humanity. Let us condemn this extermination in silence, let us stand up". This was said by M5s leader Giuseppe Conte in the Chamber of Deputies during premier time, calling for a gesture by parliamentarians for Gaza. Oppositions stood up. "Remain seated, shame on you!" he said addressing Meloni.

"Working towards structural energy price reduction"

.

The Prime Minister also spoke about the cost of energy, a topic dear to industrialists. "Unfortunately, in 2024 as for many years now, the price of electricity in Italy has exceeded that of other European nations. And this is the reason why we have made the issue of high energy prices one of our priorities, allocating more than EUR 60 billion so far to support households and businesses'. And again: 'We are continuing to work towards a structural decrease in energy prices. I still believe that among the various causes of the high energy price there is also something that does not work in the price formation and that is what the government is focusing on now'.

Orsini: good commitment Meloni on energy costs

Words appreciated by Confindustria president Emanuele Orsini. "We express our appreciation for the clear stance taken today by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on the need to reduce energy prices. Her words clearly show the awareness and sense of urgency on this fundamental issue that undermines the country's competitiveness. It is indeed crucial that we recognise as a priority the reduction of energy prices, which must be done by decoupling the price of electricity from the price of gas'.

"13,500 law enforcement officers to enhance security"

.

During the premier time, the Prime Minister also announced that 'the government has ordered the deployment of more than 13,500 units including carabinieri, police officers and financiers to strengthen security in the territories, to which about 3,000 firefighters will be added. We will help those who help us, protect those who protect us, and defend those who defend us, because that is what a just and normal state does'.

"Wrong transition only to electric, helps China"

.

Space was also given to the Green Deal reform, in response to a question from Forza Italia. In particular, on automotive, 'we have kept the revision of the entire regulation on light vehicles to the second part of 2025. There, in the wake of the non-paper promoted by Italy and the Czech Republic and supported by 15 other governments, we will aim to reaffirm the principle of technological neutrality, thus opening up to all alternative fuels that can contribute to the decarbonisation of the sector. We continue to believe that it is wrong, on an industrial level but also on a geopolitical level, to follow only the transition to electric power, the supply chains of which are today largely controlled by China'. Then the PM recalled that 'last March we managed to include the principle of technological neutrality for the first time. in the conclusions of the European Council'.

"At Palazzo Chigi working group on youth distress"

'It is my intention to set up a working group at Palazzo Chigi to deal with this matter. I would like to involve in this initiative above all those who live among these young people and I would like to ask all parties to help me and share their ideas and proposals on what are the most suitable profiles to deal with this matter," Meloni said again, at the premier time in the Chamber, responding to FdI's question on the government's initiatives against youth discomfort, illustrated by MP Fabio Roscani. 'I cannot say,' she added, 'where initiatives of this kind can take us, but I can say for certain that it is not time wasted'.

Magi enters chamber dressed as a ghost, expelled by Fontana

It is worth mentioning that Riccardo Magi, secretary of Più Europa, entered the Chamber of Deputies dressed as a ghost while the leader of the League Riccardo Molinari was speaking during the premier's time. Chamber President Lorenzo Fontana immediately called for the deputy's expulsion, who was carried away on the shoulders of the Montecitorio clerks. 'Do you remember,' shouted Magi, addressing the Prime Minister as he was taken away, 'President Meloni when you accused governments of silencing referendums, of disfavouring participation. Do you remember that? It was 2016 and 2022'. The premier watched with a smile. Later Magi said: 'Today at the premier time with Giorgia Meloni in the Chamber I dressed up as the referendum ghost. I would have liked to ask her to guarantee citizens information about the referendum and maybe invite them to go to the polls on 8 and 9 June'.
