In the context of her participation in the summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council, the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, met the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, assisted by the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa. The talks, as Palazzo Chigi explained, confirmed the common will to continue along the path of consolidating bilateral relations, inaugurated by the conclusion last September of the Memorandum establishing the Strategic Partnership on Investments and reinforced by the four meetings held by the Prime Minister with the leaders of the Kingdom of Bahrain in 2025 alone. During the meeting, the two leaders also addressed the main international issues, with particular reference to the joint efforts for the stabilisation of the Middle East and for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
Two memoranda signed between Asry, Fincantieri and Roboze
According to Italian sources, a memorandum between Fincantieri and Asry, the Bahraini government shipyard, and a second memorandum between Roboze and Asry were signed at the agreement exchange ceremony.
The agreement with Fincantieri
In detail, the memorandum with Fincantieri, which is concluded after a series of technical missions by the Italian group that assessed Asry's capabilities, lays the foundations for a possible collaboration for the design/production of military and offshore units (max 80m), both for the domestic market and for export (in the latter case in collaboration with the UAE's JV Maestral) and for maintenance activities (Mro, Maintenance, repair and operations). Roboze, on the other hand, is an Apulia-based company specialising in the production of industrial machines for additive manufacturing (3D printing). In Italy, it is a partner of Leonardo, Fincantieri and Ferrari. The memorandum initiates the process to conclude a contract for the creation of a smart factory in Bahrain that would allow Asry to directly produce components that it now has to buy on the international market.
Meloni sees Emir of Kuwait, focus on defence and investment
The Prime Minister had a bilateral meeting with the Emir of Kuwait, Misha'al Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. The two, explained a note from Palazzo Chigi, focused their attention on the excellent cooperation in the defence sector and on the results achieved by Kuwaiti investments in Italy, agreeing on the opportunity to continue to strengthen this cooperation also in light of the further opportunities offered by the Italian economy. At the end of the meeting, the main international issues of common interest were discussed, starting with the situation in Gaza, the prospects for peace in the Middle East and the conflict in Ukraine.
