States-General of Accountants

Meloni: "The taxman must help, not oppress. Tax cut fairly, now focus on middle class".

According to the premier, the state must use resources 'with common sense and without throwing money out the window, which is what we have tried to do over the years'.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni opened the day of the General States of Accountants taking place at the Rome Convention Centre la Nuvola. "This government," Meloni said, "demonstrates with facts the role it recognises to your category, which is why I wanted to be present. The president emphasised the importance of a tax reform that Italy had been waiting for for over 50 years, "and this government," she stressed, "as soon as it took office, immediately started working on it because those who create wealth must be put in the best conditions and the tax system is the main tool that allows the state to invest in the country.

Fairer tax system

.

For Meloni, the tax system is the State's calling card: 'The tax system,' she stressed, 'is also the calling card of a State's credibility, it must not suffocate society but help it prosper, it must not oppress families and businesses with abstruse rules and a level of taxation that does not correspond to the level of services the State provides. 'The government must ask for what is fair and manage resources like the good father of the family: let's try to build a fair, functional and simple tax system,' he thanked Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti and Deputy Minister Maurizio Leo from the stage for what they are doing to reduce bureaucracy, make the regulatory framework simpler and establish a relationship of trust with citizens.

The results of the collaboration

.

'The collaboration between the government and accountants,' said Meloni, 'has brought important results, I am thinking of the mergers that are now possible in tax neutrality, or the calming of the liability of the board of auditors, a necessary reform that has been awaited for years.

"We have started the Irpef reform with the reduction of the rates from four to three,' he explained, 'with an intervention that has a tangible direct effect on the pockets of workers and pensioners, but our work is not over and we intend to do more, we intend to focus today on the middle class that, as we all know, represents the backbone of the Italian production system, it is often the one that feels the brunt of the tax burden the most'.

Teamwork

.

Meloni concluded his speech - interrupted three times by open applause - by asking the accountants and the category's president Elbano de Nuccio to continue working together to return Italy to the leading role it deserves: 'we have shown that working together we can achieve great results.

Minister Giorgetti: we still have two and a half years

'The government still has two and a half years'. These were the words of Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti responding to the question, on the sidelines of a conference of accountants, on the timing of an Irpef cut for the middle class, a topic addressed in the morning, again at the General States of the Accountants, by Prime Minister Meloni and Deputy Economy Minister Leo.
