Meloni: 'We ask the banks for 5 billion out of 44 billion in profits, let them be satisfied' And Salvini: 'Let them pay for the house plan'
Premier Giorgia Meloni's statements in Bruno Vespa's new book 'Finimondo' due out Thursday 30 October for Mondadori-Rai Libri
"If the spread rises, if Italy's rating goes up, if the banks have been able to take advantage of the 200 billion made available by the Conte government to renegotiate loans they had already disbursed with a state guarantee, or of the superbonus credits, again thanks to Giuseppe Conte, it is only right that those same banks should give us a hand in continuing such a profitable policy. If out of 44 billion in profits in 2025 they make about five available to us to help the weakest sections of society, I believe that we can be satisfied and that in the end they can be satisfied too". So says Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Bruno Vespa's new book "Finimondo" due out on Thursday 30 October from Mondadori-Rai Libri, of which a note provides a preview excerpt.
Meloni: great benefits for our policies
"We don't want to tax the wealth produced by companies, because we would be giving the wrong signal. We want a contribution on the income accumulated due to market conditions that the government's policy has strongly contributed to creating". This is what Giorgia Meloni said to Carlo Messina, managing director of Intesa Sanpaolo, in the new book by Bruno Vespa . "I explained," Meloni continued, "that in order to keep the accounts in order, resources are needed and we asked for them from those who, thanks to this policy, have had great benefits".
Salvini: House plan uncovered on 2026, banks cover
"I will ask that on the Home Plan, discovered on 2026, part of the funds arrive with joy and enthusiasm from a system" that of the banks "which is making very considerable margins". Thus' the Minister of Transport, Matteo Salvini. "There is no doggedness towards the banks. I simply read the balance sheets. In the last three years the banks have made 112 billion euros in profits, often a part of these investments covered by state guarantees and, therefore, in the case that everything goes well there is a profit, in the case that it doesn't go there is the state that covers and guarantees", Salvini recalls.
Salvini: 'We vote in 2027, I cannot lose a precious year'
"We are working on a house plan, we have 660 million euros for the first pilot projects. The problem is that these deniers are from '27 onwards, I need to use them also in '26 for planning. I would like to have a pilot project for each of the 20 regions", explained Salvini during the Green Building Council Forum at Palazzo Lombardia. "Obviously - he concluded - without money nothing can be done and I need that in conversion of the budget law the resources allocated for 2027 are brought forward for planning in 2026. We vote in 2027, I cannot lose a precious year".
