Mercedes CLA electric, 701 km (and 30 km still on battery) with one full tank on the Grande Raccordo Anulare
The house of the three-pointed star with the electric CLA has set a benchmark for autonomy under real-life conditions
Mercedes has been in a record mood lately and, after the 25 set by the AMG GT XX, which covered the equivalent of the earth's circumference in just over 7 days on the Nardò ring road thanks to its more than 1,000 kW of power and the possibility of recharging up to 850 kW of power, and the experimental EQS with solid state battery that did the 1.205 km between Stuttgart and Malmö with energy still remaining for another 137 km, it relaunched with the new CLA that completed more than 10 laps of the Grande Raccordo Anulare for a total of 701 km with energy still remaining in the battery for another 30 km.
A very good result, especially if you take into account that it was achieved at an average speed of about 85 km/h and at night, therefore with no or little traffic and with reduced possibility of recovering energy when slowing down or using the wake of other vehicles. This performance was achieved by two CLA 250+ equipped with a 200 kW rear motor and an 85 kWh battery. When all is said and done, this means that the German four-door coupé put itself in the WLTP homologation range (697-792 km).
An appreciable result, therefore, due to various factors such as the 800 Volt platform, the silicon carbide inverter, the 8-speed automatic gearbox that reduces revs at cruising speed and the excellent aerodynamics with a cx of 0.21. It should also be mentioned that on the night between 1 and 2 October, during which the test was carried out by drivers at the ACI Guida Sicura centre in Vallelunga, the temperature dropped below 10 °C, an unfavourable condition for energy consumption.
The new CLA is newly available with prices starting at 56,665 euros in the 250+ version featured in the test. The 350 4MATIC 260 kW version, on the other hand, costs 62,265 and both are available in four trim levels: Advanced, Advanced Plus, Premium, and Premium Plus. Coming soon are the three 48-volt hybrid versions with a 1.5-cylinder 4-cylinder thermal unit, to be followed by electric variants with a 58 kWh LFP battery. Also on the way are shooting brake body variants.
