Meta AI challenges ChatGpt: app for iPhone and Android arrives. Here's what it's for

Meta's new standalone solution for interacting with Meta AI debuts with features optimised to facilitate voice conversations: "People around the world use Meta AI daily on WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and Messenger. Now, people can choose to experience custom AI designed for voice conversations with Meta AI within a standalone app. This is the first version and we look forward to making it available to users and gathering their feedback,' reads the company's official announcement blogpost.

Based on Llama 4, the most advanced multimodal intelligence model released so far by Mark Zuckerberg's company, Meta AI's app is able to answer common questions, solve problems, search the web, obtain advice, and delve into simple or more technical topics, as well as generate and edit images, through a text or voice conversation. The latter, including the full duplex demo that allows the AI to generate voice responses instead of text, simulating a conversation as if it were a real phone call, are initially available in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

The Meta AI assistant is also able to provide relevant answers to questions by drawing on the history of information previously shared on Meta products such as personal profiles and content with which an interaction has been recorded. And then through the Suggest Feed it is possible to find out how other users use artificial intelligence, getting suggestions and reworking other prompts making them personal.

Perfectly integrated with the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, the new app allows one to start a conversation from the glasses and then, via the History tab, restart from the app or web directly from the interaction previously left off.

As announced by the Menlo Park-based company, the Meta AI app is now available for free in Italy for iOS and Android devices; those using the Meta View app, on the other hand, will see a revamped interface and new tabs appear. The Meta AI chat home page, on the other hand, will be introduced in the future, but is not expected to be available in Italy at the time of the first launch.
