Two elderly people, a man and a woman aged 81 and 83, died in the explosion of a house in Via Cristoforo Colombo in Meta di Sorrento, a town on the Sorrento Peninsula, in the province of Naples. From an initial sketchy reconstruction, it seems that a gas leak was at the origin of the explosion.

According to reports, the explosion occurred shortly before 8 a.m. due to a gas leak that also caused a fire that spread to two neighbouring houses, but without major damage. The victims are a cohabiting couple, Raffaele Cretella and Rosa Formato. At the scene of the tragedy, in Via Cristoforo Colombo, the fire brigade and health services arrived, and investigations are now underway by the Carabinieri, coordinated by the Torre Annunziata Public Prosecutor's Office.
