Meteor explodes over the USA, roars and shaken houses between Massachusetts and New Hampshire
The explosion, equivalent to 300 tonnes of TNT, rattled some homes. NASA: 'It was a natural object, not space debris'
A meteora entered the Earth's atmosphere and exploded over the northeastern United States, generating loud booms felt over a wide area between Massachusetts and New Hampshire and causing numerous reports from residents.
This was reported by Nasa, according to which the phenomenon occurred around 2 p.m. local time, 8 p.m. in Italia, in the skies over northeastern Massachusetts and southeastern New Hampshire. The celestial body disintegrated as it passed through the atmosphere at aspeed of about 120 thousand kilometres per hour and at an altitude of about 64 kilometres.
The US space agency estimated that the explosion released an energy equivalent to about 300 tonnes of TNT. A quantity sufficient to generate powerful shock waves, perceived by the population in the form of loud booms and vibrations.
On social networks, numerous residents reported hearing a sudden explosion and seeing their homes shake for a few moments. The testimonies multiplied in the hours following the event, initially fuelling doubts about the nature of the phenomenon.
However, NASA ruled out the possibility that it was the re-entry of a satellite or other space debris into the atmosphere. "This bolide was not associated with any active meteor shower, butit was a natural object and not a re-entry of space debris or a satellite," explainedJennifer Dooren, the agency's deputy press officer.
