MG, the British brand of the Chinese giant Saic, had closed 2024 with 40,208 units sold in Italy, the second European market after the UK, representing a 33% improvement over 2023 for a 2.6% share. The figures for the first quarter of 2025 show further growth: 15,438 units sold for an increase of 55% and a share of 3.5%, with a target for the end of the year of 50,000 units sold or 25% more.
The sales network is also growing
.In addition to focusing on sales, MG also plans to grow the sales network in Italy. The goal is to reach 70 dealers, compared to 60 in 2024, plus 150 sales outlets compared to 130 last year. Another feather in the Anglo-Chinese brand's cap is the warehouse in Tortona (Alessandria), which can guarantee the availability of 97% of all available spare parts within 24 hours.
A possible industrial location in Europe
.Given that MG intends to assess the consequences of the recently introduced duties, which weigh on Saic at a rate of 35.5%, the possibility of one or even two settlements in Europe is possible. For the time being, it is not known in which country, but Hungary could be one of the favourites. A decision in this regard is now just around the corner and will certainly be made official no later than the third quarter of 2025.
Coming soon: the new petrol MG3
With April's market performance confirming the brand's growth trend in Italy, two new models will come to support demand, starting with the petrol MG3. In place of the hybrid powertrain is a 1,500 cc petrol with 115 hp and availability in Standard and Comfort variants at prices of €16,990 and €18,400 respectively with an attractive €2,000 promotion.
Petrol-powered ZS debuts
.As in the case of the MG3, the ZS is offered alongside the hybrid variant. Same engine as the MG3 and therefore the 1,500 cc 4-cylinder with 115 hp and 148 Nm of torque with aesthetic features taken from the hybrid, but in Standard and Comfort trim. And we come to the prices, which for the Standard start at 20,490 euro, with the Comfort going up to 22,490 euro with a 2,000 euro promotion.
