MG presented the new Cyber X electric suv at the Shanghai Motor Show.

It is the second model in the Cyber family inaugurated last year with the Cyberster roadster. Square and strong lines compared to typical SUVs on the road, the Cyber X targets buyers with a modern and innovative lifestyle. In addition there are illuminated badges and LED light bars at the front. The most credited rival could be the Smart #5.

A city car style rather than off-road

.

The design certainly does not emphasise a purely off-road look, but favours a more elegant and technological approach, ideal for an audience of potential young buyers. Highlights include full-width LED light bars at both front and rear, as well as front split-type headlights, an illuminated MG badge, retractable door handles and even roof rails, while the profile is very aerodynamic. For a destination that will be mainly urban.

Eight more new models coming within two years

.

The car is destined for the Chinese market for the time being, but MG had already confirmed at the time that the Cyber brand has ambitions for global scenarios. It is no coincidence that the Rodaster Cyberster is already on sale in Italy with prices starting at 63,000 euro. MG also plans to launch eight new models for the Cyber family over the next two years in three product lines: sports cars, saloons and SUVs. All Cyber models are based on Saic's E3 electric platform designed to support different cars.

Available with a new digital interface

.

MG also confirmed that the new Cyber X SUV will be among the first to use the new Zebra 3.0 operating system with a brand new digital interface. As well as being designed to offer features such as voice recognition and connectivity not yet provided by existing systems. The new MG models based on the E3 platform will also use the J6 chip from Horizon Robotics, which should be able to support new developments such as driver monitoring in semi-autonomous functions.

The strategic Cyber brand also globally

.

The new systems form the basis of the new technical package offered by the Cyber X, while the rest of the technical specifications such as the powertrain and battery capacity have yet to be revealed. The price of the car, which promises to be interesting given the destination of a model for young people, has yet to be defined. The Cyber family offering is to be considered strategic for the Chinese at Saic not only for the domestic market, but also globally.
