The NGO Solidaire’s ship is due to arrive at the port of Livorno tomorrow morning, carrying 56 migrants rescued in the Mediterranean. Among them are 23 unaccompanied minors. According to the Livorno Prefecture, the group consists mainly of Bangladeshi nationals, with some Somalis and Egyptians also present.
Disembarkation in Livorno and health checks
Ahead of the ship’s arrival, a coordination meeting was held this morning to organise the operations following the disembarkation. According to the Prefecture, the meeting focused on establishing screening procedures to identify the migrants and assess their health and any situations of vulnerability.
The checks will apply to people rescued during search and rescue operations in the Mediterranean, prior to their transfer to designated reception facilities.
Reception: adults in the Siena area, minors in the Chieti area
The destination for the migrants has already been determined by the Department for Civil Liberties and Immigration at the Ministry of the Interior. The adults will be accommodated at a centre in the Siena area, whilst the unaccompanied minors will be transferred to a facility in the province of Chieti.
