"I'm a little tried, obviously the situation is not pleasant, but in the end passion and the will to work prevail, so we go on with intensity". So said the mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala live on RTL 102.5, commenting on his state of mind in the wake of the urban planning investigation for which he is also under investigation.
On 21 July in the City Council, he gave a speech in which he explained that he wanted to continue in office despite everything. 'In the end the sense of duty prevails, I am 67 years old and I have done many things in life,' he added, 'it is not that I cultivate any ambition, I look to the future with disenchantment. I have a sense of duty and I believe Milan still needs it - he went on to explain -, we will be back from holiday in September and there will be 18 months left until the end of the mandate and I would like to make them as good as possible'.
That I did not resign 'I did it only out of a sense of duty because I am not a quitter,' Sala said. 'It is not that Expo was a walk in the park, I know what I suffered but it was a success for Milan, so you also have to know how to resist at certain times,' he said.
Thanks to Meloni for his words
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's words that "one does not resign because of a notice of guarantee" are statements "that pleased me and are correct words, because we cannot be alternating-current legalitarians," Sala stressed, commenting on the prime minister's words after the news of the investigation against him in the urban planning enquiry.
'I found out at ten o'clock in the evening from a phone call from the editor of the Corriere della Sera. It is clear that someone had told the journalists,' the mayor of Milan told the microphones of Rtl 102.5. 'This always happens,' he added, 'and in my opinion in a democratic country it is not good but I see that it is accepted. Beyond bitterness, this is how things are'.
