Milan: Vannacci backs Carmelo Burgio for mayor. An election committee is also set up

Carmelo Burgio will be Futuro Nazionale’s candidate for the upcoming municipal elections in Milan. The announcement was made by Roberto Vannacci from the stage at the Versiliana, where he outlined who Burgio is and what experience he has gained. Burgio is “a Carabinieri general, a man of the institutions”, who “has worked at the Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate and was a paratrooper”. Meanwhile, an election committee has also been set up to support his candidacy: according to a statement, it is being promoted by a group of entrepreneurs, professionals and representatives of long-established families, chaired by Count Alessandro Romei Longhena, a former paratrooper (nephew of Pope Paul VI, former Christian Democrat mayor of Noviglio and a member of the Catholic right).

“‘We will stand in all the major cities – Milan, Bologna and Rome – just as we will stand in the general election,’ said Vannacci, who then, referring once again to Burgio, emphasised that with him ‘Milan can once again become the City of the Madonnina and not of the Maranzas’.

Speaking again from the stage at the Versiliana, Vannacci went on to add that Burgio ‘ruled the provinces of Trapani and Caserta. In Caserta, he fought tirelessly against the Casalesi clan, carrying out ruthless operations that enabled him to achieve incredible results. And it was he who secured the support of a paratrooper regiment. I am convinced that if we asked Burgio to clear out Rogoredo, he would know how to do it! He would know how to do it without needing advice from Prefect Gabrielli”.

“I’ve mentioned this about Rogoredo before,” the FN leader pointed out, “and I’m repeating it because it’s an obsession of mine. And then, after Rogoredo, we’ll move on to Scampia or some other area where the state needs to reclaim its sovereignty.”

Vannacci also touched on the subject of alliances: ‘Our supporters and sympathisers follow us because, first and foremost, they believe in the consistency of a political project. They believe that certain red lines are non-negotiable. They believe that there is someone who, despite the pursuit of power and political manoeuvring, is seriously pursuing a political project. That is why our support base is growing steadily, and why many people who previously paid little attention to politics or were disillusioned are now regaining confidence. Fn is moving forward in line with the principles on which it was founded. People are realising that there is a point of reference to look to, one from which it is difficult to change course. In fact, we never change course. We are willing to discuss matters with everyone. I have been asked about a rumoured meeting of mine with Grillo that never took place. First there was talk of Renzi, then of Di Battista, and now of Grillo. I speak to everyone; I’m willing to engage with anyone, but my positions remain the same. My non-negotiable principles remain unchanged. Come what may, whatever happens… We are the Dirty Dozen; we’ve already failed; we cannot fail again; we can only succeed because we’ve already failed.”
