Milano Santa Giulia continues on the road to renewal thanks to the new cultural hub announced by the newly signed agreement between Lendlease and Mare Culturale Urbana.
The collaboration between the international large-scale urban regeneration project group and the arts and cultural production centre will give birth to Scirocco, a hybrid space of over 500 square metres located in the Spark Business District of Milano Santa Giulia. The space will be part of the district managed by Lendlease and dedicated to business.
The Scirocco hub specifically will be located within Spark 3, one of the district's buildings, and will be dedicated to cultural production, with a schedule of events open to the entire city, from culture to music to sport.
"Scirocco will put at the centre of its programme the community that already lives in the neighbourhood and progressively all the new inhabitants that will arrive. We want to be a social and cultural stronghold, an open and inclusive square for people of all ages, an ideal space where people can get together, a place of refreshment," said Andrea Capaldi, co-founder and artistic director of Mare Culturale Urbana, commenting on the agreement. "With Scirocco we will also activate training and job placement courses dedicated to young people in the area in the trades related to food and beverage. We are very honoured to be able to bring the experience of mare culturale urbano to the service of the development of an important part of the city of Milan alongside a leading partner such as Lendlease'.
Scirocco will be one of the many projects planned over the next few years to breathe new life into the Milan Santa Giulia district, which - with an area of over one million square metres - is one of the largest urban regeneration projects in Italy, developed by Lendlease. At the heart of the project will be a large urban park, around which a number of important public functions, services to people and businesses will be developed: a new beating heart in the south-east of Milan will thus arise, proposing a renewed concept of living in the city.
