Mille Miglia 2024: the logbook of the third stage

In the evening, the caravan finished the third day of the race by reaching the capital.

Rome reached. The crews of the Mille Miglia 2024 have reached the southernmost point of the race and are ready to start the ascent towards Brescia.

After the early morning departure of the cars from the famous Cittadella di Viareggio, the caravan stopped in Lucca, where it was possible to pass through the pedestrian area above the city walls for an unprecedented visit.

This was followed by a warm welcome in Pontedera, the birthplace of Piaggio. For the occasion, the streets of the town centre were lined with the typical 1000 Miglia flags that greeted the crews.

A few drops of rain fell on the stretch of road before reaching the intermediate stage and lunch break (for those who were able) in Castiglione della Pescaia before descending towards Viterbo.

The arrival of the stage in Rome, where (as always for such occasions) many people flocked to see the parade of elderly ladies on four wheels.

After covering around 530 kilometres today in the AMG-branded compact sports car, we were well impressed by the comfort. We confirm the stiffness of the suspension in Sport, Sport+ and Race modes, although choosing Comfort mode makes for a more comfortable ride.

Also note the fuel consumption: on a mostly hilly route, with numerous stops and frequently changing driving mode, we consumed 9.6 litres per 100 km.

In the fourth stage, the caravan goes from Rome to Bologna, passing through the Passo della Futa and Passo della Raticosa, two musts for the world's most famous regularity race;
