Education, MIM: no cuts to funding for combating violence against women
The Ministry: “This makes it technically possible to use funds that would otherwise have been lost”
“The Ministry of Education and Merit refutes the claims made by certain opposition politicians, who allege that the Government has cut funding for educational initiatives aimed at combating violence against women. The provision introduced by the 2026 Budget Act had, in fact, established a fund within the Ministry of the Interior to be distributed amongst local authorities, which were then to disburse the grants directly to lower and upper secondary schools. ‘This mechanism proved to be cumbersome and would not have allowed schools to make practical use of those resources.’ So stated the Ministry of Education and Merit in a press release.
School Decree
“The Education Decree therefore steps in to ensure that these funds can actually be utilised as early as 2026 – funds that would otherwise have been lost – by allocating the resources, in particular, to courses on respect and gender equality, precisely with a view to promoting a culture of preventing gender-based violence. The decree-law therefore implements the objectives set out in the Budget Act and does not cut any funding,” concludes the MIM.
