Mim: Significant drop in incidents of violence against school staff

The Ministry of Education and Merit recorded a significant decrease in cases of violence against school staff: from September to date, 4 assaults were reported, compared to 21 in the same period of the 2024/2025 school year and 19 in 2023/2024. The figure confirms a positive trend: in the 2024/2025 school year there were 51 incidents in total, and 71 in 2023/2024. The victims are predominantly teachers, affected in most cases by relatives of the students.

"Although we have to wait for this trend line to be consolidated, these figures are certainly very important because of the great significance of the drop in aggression. A significant role has been played by the introduction of harsher sanctions against those who use violence against school staff and no tolerance for any form of aggression against them. We are restoring authority to teachers and putting the culture of respect back at the centre. It must be clear that whoever assaults a teacher also assaults the State," said Education and Merit Minister Giuseppe Valditara.The data released are the result of constant monitoring initiated by MIM in 2023. Previously, incidents were not recorded in a timely manner, which is why the overall data for the 2022/2023 school year is available, but not that for the first four months.
