Mimit: average self-service petrol price at 1.968 euro per litre, diesel at 2.037 euro
Codacons calculates how much the price of diesel and petrol has risen in recent years
The Ministry of Business and the Made in Italy makes it known that, based on the latest data collected by Mimit's Fuel Price Observatory, today - Sunday 24 May 2026 - the average price of fuel in 'self-service' mode along the national road network is 1.968 euros per litre for petrol and 2.037 euros per litre for diesel. On the motorway network, on the other hand, the average self-service price is EUR 2.057 per litre for petrol and EUR 2.123 per litre for diesel. On Saturday 23 May, diesel was at an average price of 1.979 euro per litre in self-service mode along the national road network and 2.065 euro per litre on motorway self-service.
Net of the discounts on excise duties arranged by the government to deal with the emergency in the Middle East, in Italia the average price of diesel has risen by +75.5% in 10 years, against an EU average of +69.2%, while petrol costs 38% more than in 2016. The data come from Codacons, which on the basis of the European Commission's latest report analysed the trend in fuel prices in the various member states.
