Minetti case, Quirinale: following the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office’s decision, there will be no review of the pardon
Notes from the Hill: there is nothing unusually secretive about the matter
“The President of the Republic, who had publicly asked the further investigations, has respectfully taken note of the conclusions of the Milan Public Prosecutor’s Office, according to which there are no grounds for a reassessment of the clemency measure adopted, reaffirming its confidence in the judiciary’. This is stated in a note in which the Quirinale definitively closes the case of pardon granted to Nicole Minetti.
The Quirinale also highlights an aspect that had been at the centre of controversy, namely that ‘in the case of the pardon in question, the Quirinale did not deviate from its usual procedures, and there was no unusual secrecy: in the majority of cases where a pardon is granted, no statement is issued by the Quirinale, due to the presence of sensitive information – illnesses, personal circumstances and family relationships, the involvement of children and other delicate matters – which must be duly protected from disclosure’.
