Minister Roccella takes to Facebook to express her gratitude for the support she has received
Her message regarding the search for her husband: “Thank you for the outpouring of support; this is a tragic and heart-wrenching time for me”
“I am trying to reply to everyone personally, and I know you will understand if it takes me a little while. But in the meantime, I would also like to use this page to thank all those who, in various ways, have shown me their support during these difficult days. This outpouring of affection, at such a tragic and heart-wrenching time for me, moves me deeply and helps me to carry on. Thank you.”
The Facebook post by the minister
This is what Eugenia Roccella, Minister for Equal Opportunities and the Family, wrote in a Facebook post.
Luigi Cavallari, the minister’s 84-year-old husband, went missing in Lake Vico, in the province of Viterbo, on 27 June after jumping off a boat in full view of his wife.
On 2 July, an experimental marine drone was deployed in the search
The waters of Lake Vico are extremely challenging, and at a depth of 4 metres visibility is virtually zero, due to the dense underwater vegetation. Just a few metres below the surface, the water temperatures are extremely low. Poor visibility and freezing temperatures were among the factors that hampered the divers’ search efforts in the days that followed. For this reason, on 2 July, an experimental marine drone was also deployed in the search, though, unfortunately, to no avail.
Access points to water treatment plants were also inspected
Meanwhile, following an analysis of the data provided by the various rovers in the field over the past few days, the search is now focusing on certain locations which, according to the instrumental mapping, may conceal Cavallari’s body. In this regard, in order to find any traces, the access points to the water treatment plants and to the estuary of a small watercourse flowing into the lake have also been explored.
